Investigation of the healthy lifestyle behaviors of adolescent athletes in terms of some variables: Van province example

Adolescence period has a critical importance for athletes to gain a good sports culture and healthy lifestyle behaviors. In this study, it was aimed to examine the healthy lifestyle behaviors of adolescent athletes in terms of some variables. Descriptive survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. Adolescent athletes in Van constituted the universe of the research, while the sample consisted of 400 athletes, 221 men and 179 women, aged 14-18 years, who voluntarily participated in the research. As a data collection tool in the research, the demographic information form consisting of 10 questions created by the researcher and Walker et al. (1996) developed by Bahar et al. (2008) "Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale-II (SYBDÖ)" consisting of 52 items and 6 sub-dimensions was used. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data. In the analysis of normally distributed data, independent sample t-test from parametric tests, one-way analysis of variance (Anova ) and post-hoc tukey test for within-group differences were used . According to the research findings, no significant difference was found in the sub-dimensions and the total scale in the variables of club license and sport type (p>0.05). A significant difference was found in some sub-dimensions in the variables of age, gender, school branch, sports history, frequency of doing sports, family income status, and educational status of parents (p<0.05). On the other hand, there was a significant difference in the variables of age, gender, school branch and frequency of doing sports in the total HLBD scale (p<0.05). As a result, it was determined that the healthy lifestyle behaviors of adolescent athletes differ in terms of some variables.
