Identification of occupational accidents in auto repair shops in Adiyaman Gölbaşi small industrial site and the development of policies to prevent them

Auto repair shops are among the workplaces where occupational accidents frequently occur, as they involve various risks such as heavy parts, sharp tools, flammable materials, electricity, and non-ergonomic working conditions. This study aims to develop policies for preventing accidents by analyzing the frequency and causes of occupational accidents in auto repair shops located in the Adıyaman Gölbaşı Small Industrial Site. Within the scope of the research, a survey was conducted with 201 employees working in the Adıyaman Gölbaşı Small Industrial Site. The questionnaire consisted of questions regarding participants' demographic information, experiences with occupational accidents, types of hazards encountered, causes of accidents, and habits of using protective equipment. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 software and evaluated through Exploratory Factor Analysis, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Test, Bartlett's Test of Sphericity, Cronbach's Alpha Test, One-Way ANOVA, Games-Howell, and LSD analyses. A 3-point and 5-point Likert scale was used in the questionnaires. According to the findings, significant differences were identified between participants' age and, particularly, years of work experience, and their perception of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). It was observed that employees with more experience had higher OHS awareness. Incentive systems, legal compliance facilitation, collaboration with chambers of industry, and reward mechanisms are proposed as the main components of these policies. In this regard, in addition to individual awareness-raising efforts, it is necessary to develop sustainable policies at the national, local, and enterprise levels to prevent occupational accidents.
