Abstract (EN)

Mosque music is a form of religious music that is generally shaped around the practice of prayer and serves a functional role in this context, although other forms beyond this framework can also be observed. Featuring predominantly Arabic lyrics, mosque music holds a significant place within the heritage of Turkish religious music. Among the various forms encompassed within mosque music, the practice of reciting salāh (Islamic call to prayer outside of the regular adhan) stands out due to its ritualistic function and distinctive musical structure. In this study, examples of salāh recited within the context of mosque music in the province of Adıyaman have been examined. These examples were transcribed using the Mus2 notation software and analyzed from a musical perspective. A descriptive survey model was adopted in the research, and qualitative data collection methods were employed. The population of the study consists of salāh recitations performed within the boundaries of Adıyaman province in the context of mosque music. The sample group includes four religious officials/music performers who are actively serving in mosques in Adıyaman and who perform salāh recitations. The structural characteristics, melodic forms, and performance practices of the recited salāhs were thoroughly analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the salāh examples predominantly utilized the Uşşak and Hüseynî modes (makams). Based on the findings, it was concluded that the mosque music traditions in Adıyaman are distinctly connected to the local musical culture, revealing an organic relationship between the region's broader musical tendencies and salāh performances.
