An analysis of the works named as ghazals in Adıyaman region

Adıyaman region is one of the important regions with unique characteristics in Turkish folk music. It is possible to come across examples of Turkish folk music in many types and forms in the region. The genre called ghazal in the region, which is included in long airs, is one of these examples. It is seen that the ghazal performed in Adıyaman region is performed by leading local artists and has important artistic features. The research aims to examine in depth musically the existing ghazal performance environments of Adıyaman region, which has a rich cultural background, the accompaniment instruments used in ghazal performance, the lives of ghazal performers and the ghazals they sing. This study is in the nature of a situation assessment, and the population of the research consists of the ghazal genre performed throughout Türkiye, and the sample consists of the ghazal genre performed in the Adıyaman region. The research has a descriptive feature and data on the subject was obtained through source scanning and personal interview methods. If a few of the research results are listed; It has been determined that the ghazals performed in the Adıyaman region are generally performed in homes and on harfane nights, that violin, cümbüş and baglama are used as accompaniment instruments in ghazal performance, and that unnamed makam scales belonging to the region are used in some ghazal examples. In addition, it has been observed that long-term performance covering many note values in one breath is common in ghazal performances and the lyrics are generally close to today's Turkish language. In this regard, it is possible to say that there are some differences between the general characteristics of the ghazal genre performed in the region and the general characteristics of the known Turkish folk music ghazal genre.
