Effects of endurance training and vitamin supplementation on homocyteine, lipid and antioxidant metabolisms

The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of aerobic training andvitamin supplementation on homocysteine, lipid and antioxidant metabolisms. Sixtystudents from Celal Bayar University were recruited as the participants of the study.The participants were divided into 3 different groups which were experiment, placeboand control. The experiment and placebo group attended 8 weeks endurance trainingprogramme which was prescribed individually. In addition, the experimental groupwere taken multivitamins (Supradyn) daily while placebo groups were on placebo.VO2max, antropometric measurements, and biochemical analysis of the participantswere taken before and after 8 weeks training programme. During biochemical analysis,HDL, LDL, cholesterol, folic acid, vitamin B12, ApoA, ApoB, Lipoprotein a,malondialdehyde (MDA), Coenzym Q10 analysis were performed. According tostatistical analysis of the study, there were no statistical differences among three groupsin terms of Hcy levels. On the other hand, Hcy level of placebo group incerease slightlyafter eight weeks of endurance training. Also LDL, cholesterol, Lpa and ApoA levels ofsubject in the experimental and placebo groups were not statistically different than thatof subjects in the control group. Furthermore, after 8 weeks of endurance training folicacid and vitamin B12 levels of the experimental group was statistically higher than thatof the placebo and the control groups. It was also found that experimental group?s MDAlevel were statistically lower than the placebo groups. Moreover, Coenzim Q10 levelswere increase drastically in the experimental and the placebo groups after 8 weeks ofendurance training.Key Words; Endurance training, homocysteine, Lipid, malondialdehyde, Coenzym Q10.
