Translating and evaluating the Âfâk and İmdâdü'l-Midâd Magazines

Magazines are the tools that best reflect the socio-cultural life of a period. Intellectuals who adopt the aim of educating and guiding the society in which they live are in an active position in the publication of magazines. One of these intellectuals is Muallim Naci. The first two of his Magazines are Âfâk and İmdâdü'l-Midâd, respectively. In our research, we have determined that there are not enough studies on these two magazines, and there are deficiencies in the studies. Our study aims to determine the place of magazines in the period and to be a resource for researchers and enthusiasts. Accordingly, 7 issues of Âfâk with a total of 225 pages and 6 issues of Imdâdü'l-Midâd with 272 pages were scanned. These scans were made from the National Library, İBB Atatürk Library and Beyazıt State Library Hakkı Tarık Us Collection. Âfâk journal is also important in terms of poetry and translation. There are also many articles in letter, conversation, scientific writing types. Imdâdü'l-Midâd is a journal published by Muallim Naci after leaving his column in Tercümân-ı Hakîkat. Names such as İsmail Safa and Ahmet Rasim published works in İmdâdü'l-Midâd. Again, the first published poem of Cenap Şahabettin is in İmdâdü'l-Midâd.
