A literal view on disaster management: A content analysis specific of scientific studies

Disasters affect human life across social, political, and economic dimensions, disrupting normal life cycles. Reducing their destructive impact requires actions grounded in scientific knowledge and evidence-based studies. This research employs content analysis to examine scientific studies related to the field of disaster management. The dataset comprises 428 postgraduate theses from Türkiye's "National Thesis Center" and 628 academic articles from the "DergiPark" database, covering the years 2010-2022. Content analysis, as a method, involves the objective, systematic, and detailed evaluation of studies on a specific topic. In this study, all sources were reviewed in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The research process was structured in two phases: descriptive content analysis and thematic content analysis. The goal is to identify key themes, highlight scientific trends, and assess the scope and depth of scholarly engagement within the disaster management literature. The findings indicate a growing academic interest in the field over time, with increased interdisciplinary involvement. Certain universities and journals have emerged as particularly productive. However, there are significant gaps in the literature, particularly in solution-oriented approaches. Most studies are concentrated on contextual analysis and problem identification, while fewer focus on practical implementations or innovative solutions. This research contributes an original, systematic examination of disaster management literature in Türkiye. It is expected to serve both as a reference for future academic work and as a guide for researchers aiming to identify trends, gaps, and future directions in the field.
