The aim of this study is to investigate the petroleum geology of the Angot region and its surrounding region that belongs to Amu-Darya Havza in the northern part of Afghanistan. The Amu-Darya Basin is located in the area that starts from the north-west of Iran and headed towards South- East and Northern part of Afghanistan. This basin covers a wide range of area within the borders of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and also contains important oil production areas in these regions. The basin is located in the north of the Kopet- Mountains and the high ridges of the Bande-Turkistan Mountains. There are so many undiscovered oil and gas basins in the northern, northwest and southeastern regions of Afghanistan. As a result of geological and geophysical studies, about 500 anticline structures were determined. Out of these 67 anticlines are in North Afghanistan. And in these anticlines, 121 drilling wells were opened. In this study, as a result 7 oil fields and 8 gas basins have been found in Northern Afghanistan and in addition to that, Angotti, Akdary, Bazarkam, Kashkari, Zamarudsay, Aligül, Hocasil are petroleum basins. Hocagogirdak, Carkoduk, Cuma, Başikord, Yetimtag, Cangalkalan, Hocaborhan, Çiğçi are gas basins. The Jurassic old formations together with the Eocene aged Suzak formation that carries the feature of source rock. These formations that contain enough organic matter for hydrocarbons and have been reached to the required thermal gradient.
