Uzbeks, Turkmens and their relation in Afghanistan

Tens of Turkish nations and tribes have come and settled in Afghanistan, which is a great crossing and crossroads on the Silk Road, and established cities and states over the centuries. The country's population is overwhelmingly Sunni and Shia Muslims, but it is complexly segmented on ethnic, regional and sectarian bases. In Afghanistan, which has been struggling with civil wars and conflicts for nearly half a century, Uzbeks and Turkmens, like other ethnic groups, have been affected by these conflicts. Afghanistan`s Turkistan is divided into two large regions in the west, Turkistan with the center of the city of Shibirgan and Katagan with the city of Kunduz in the center. There are Kunduz, Tahar, Semengan, Baglan and Badakhshan Provinces in the Katagan Region, and the Cevzcan, Belh, Faryab, Serapul, Badghis and Herat Provinces in the Turkistan Region. Some of the Turkish nations living in Afghanistan have managed to preserve their own language but, Some other Turkish groups have forgotten their mother tongue and use Dari (Afghan Persian) or Pashtu. Uzbeks and Turkmens have tribal identities that still largely define the structures in their societies, and this is reflected in both their social and political lives. Both groups have had an impact on Afghan culture mainly through sports and music. Even though Turkmens and Uzbeks living in Afghanistan were exposed to the same troubles, they did not leave their regions to a large extent and they were able to preserve their traditions, customs and traditions from history. Our research is consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, general information is given as well as the historical development of Afghanistan, Uzbeks in Afghanistan in the second chapter, Turkmens in Afghanistan in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, the relationship between Uzbeks and Turkmens in Afghanistan has been tried to be examined.
