A study on leadership behaviors and crisis management of health managers working in Al-Nahda hospital N'djamena/Chad, Africa

This study was designed as a cross-sectional and descriptive analysis to evaluate the leadership behaviors and crisis management competencies of healthcare administrators at Al-Nahda Hospital in N'djamena, Chad. The research population encompassed all 200 administrators employed at the hospital between January and March 2025. Without employing any sampling method, the study was completed with 167 administrators, excluding those on leave. Data were collected via a questionnaire, which included socio-demographic questions and standardized scales for Leadership Behaviors and Crisis Management, with an average completion time of 20 minutes. Analysis of the data, employing statistical methods such as t-tests, ANOVA. correlation, and regression, revealed significant findings. Supportive leadership was notably higher among_ administrators who were female, aged 40 and over, held a postgraduate degree, and had more than five years of management experience Furthermore, those with over five years of professional experience demonstrated superior crisis management practices. Correlation analysis identified weak positive relationships: one between instrumental leadership and the crisis management sub-dimension of "during a crisis,"' and another between achievement-oriented leadership and the "pre-crisis" sub- dimension. Crucially, simple linear regression analysis determined that nstrumental leadership was the sole behavioral style that significantly predicted effective crisis management. In conclusion, the overall levels of both leadership behaviors and crisis management practices among the participating healthcare administrators were assessed to be high, with instrumental leadership being a key influencing factor.
