Özet (EN)
During the ?Afyon Fountains? Masters thesis study, 29 fountain samples in Afyon city center were examined. Out of these fountains 1 is fork fountain, 2 are corner fountains, 3 are square fountains, 5 are mosque fountains, 18 are parish fountains. One of the fountain samples belongs to 13th century, one to 14th century, 4 of them to 18th century, 4 of them to 19th century and 12 of them to the beginning of the 20th century. There are 7 fountains of which there is no inscription and the construction date is not known, of which the inscription belongs to another building or there exists the restoration inscriptions. Generally fountains belong to the beginning of the 20th century. Though the fountains were mainly constructed during the 18th and 19th century, still this did not prevent them to have the characteristics of the Classic Period Ottoman fountain design. Fountains have a facade forming of an arch surrounding the niche which have an inscription in the middle, a tap on the mirror stone, a basin which holds the water flowing from the tap and a resting stone on both sides of the basin. Mainly there is a water reservoir lying behind the facade and a cover system made of flat roof or hip roof. There is not intense embellishment on the facades of the fountains. Although there are some examples of embellishments through folding materials, Classic Period Ottoman embellishment elements were not used. On the fountains mainly the facade embellishments which are made out by the rhythmic and irregular layout of the materials were used. In addition to the plain fountains there also exists the 2 facaded, large reservoired and big dimensioned fountain examples. The most capturing element on nearly every fountain facade is the usage of round or pointed arches. It is not very common to see embellishments with the material used on the arches. Besides there are also samples of which there are no arches, just the mirror stones and frames surrounding these stones. In Afyon fountains stone, brick and marble elements are used. Mainly cut stone is used; brick material is just used for embellishments or as supporting material in architecture. Marble material can only be seen in 2 samples. Key Words 1. Afyon 2. Fountains 3.
