Evaluation of cancer patients admitted to Afyon Kocatepe University Medical Faculty Medical Oncology Clinic

Abstract (EN)

Cancer related deaths today are in second place after the death due to cardiovascular disease. It is a serious problem becouse of morbidity and mortality. Although there are many studies on the epidemiology of cancer in our country and the world in some areas still there is not enough data. The aim of this study was conducted to determine the demographic variability of the cancer patients who are living in the region of Afyonkarahisar. In our descriptive and retrospective nature of study we analyzed 2201 cancer patients who are registered at the Medical Oncology department in Afyon Kocapete University Hospital between the date of February 2012 to June 2015. It was demonstrated that 1101 (%50) patients were male and 1100 (%50) were female and also the avarege age was 60. For all off the patients, the percentage of the smoking rate was 1312 (%59.6) and the percentage of non smoking rate was 889 (%40.6). The most five common type of cancer were seen in all the patients are; lung cancer 469(%21.3), breast cancer 447 (%20.3), colorectal cancer 373 (%16.9), gastric cancer 193 (%8.8), ovarian cancer 70 (%3.2). For women breast 443 (%40.3), colorectal 153 (%13.9), lung 81 (%7.4), stomach 75 (%6.8), over 70 (%6.4). For men lung 388 (%35.2), colorectal 220 (%20), stomach 118 (%10.7), prostate 58(%5.3), pancreas 35(%3.2). Today cancer is the most important healty problem in the world that can be treated with the early diagnosis. If the cancer statistics are healty and comprehensive, it will bring the research of the ethiology and preventive medicine. Both the potential prediagnosis and the devolopment of early diagnosis methots are significant with the knowledge of most common types of cancer. In this way, treatment is very important in reducing mortality and morbility. This research will provide us important clues and we can develop new strategies to cope with the cancer in our region. Consequently patients in Afyon Kocatepe University Department of Internal Medicine Oncology admitted to the clinic with a diagnosis of cancer don't have very different result than the general population of our country in terms of types of cancer.
