Prevalance of cattle foot diseases in Afyonkarahisar and its surroundings

SUMMARYPrevalance of Cattle Foot Diseases in Afyonkarahisar and ts SurroundingsIn this study, foot diseases and hoof deformations in 1800 cattles inAfyonkarahisar region were investigated.According to these examination the number, ration, age and distribution ofcattle with foot diseases were presented as tables and diagrams.Only digital deformations in the 78 claws, only foot diseases withoutdeformation in 20 claws and both deformation and disease in 97 foot wereobserved.The number of deformed claws and diseases were 195 being 25 located infront feet and 170 in hind feet, 117 in lateral, 43 in medial and 35 bilaterally).Classification of the deformities and diseases were as follows; owergrownclaw in 82, blunt claw in 11, splay claw in 13, scissor claw in 21, splay claw in23, corkscrew claw in 26 cases.Interdigital phlegmon (panaritium) in 16 (%9.14), Pododermatitiscircumscripta in 15 (%8.57), erosio ungulae in 13 (%7.43), Pododermatitis diffusaaseptica acuta laminitis in 13 (%7.43), bruised sole in 7 (%4), Interdigitaldermatitis in 6 (%3.43), white line disease in 6 (%3.43), Interdigital hyperplasia in6 (%3.43), fissura ungulae in 4 (%2.29), Pododermatitis diffusa aseptica chronica(laminitis) in 3 (%1.71), Pododermatitis Chronica Necroticans in 2 (%1.14), heelabcess in 2 (%1.14), dermatitis digitalis in 2 (%1.14) and wound of claw in 2(%1.14) cases were observedAs a result, this study has shown that there was an important role of thedigital deformities and hoof care in the etiology of digital diseases.In conclusion; in October, November and December in 2006 thepercentage of foot disease in Afyonkarahisar region was % 10.83Key words: Cattle, foot, disease, prevalance, Afyonkarahisar
