Aspergillus investigation in Afyonkarahisar at four different hospital environment and detecting the isolated Aspergillus antifungal susceptibility

Abstract (EN)
Aspergillus are mould group filamentous fungus that are found on every part of the earth including Antarctica and especially on Northern hemisphere. In this genus, there are patogen and opportunistic patogen species. Especially in immunocompromised patients, it can lead to invasive illnesses caused in high mortality. In this study air samples were collected from ten different units of four hospitals in Afyonkarahisar region. The aim of the study was investigation of Aspergillus species found in the environment, the effects of humidity and heat on the Aspergillus spor density and the detection of antifungal susceptibility of Aspergillus by CLSI M 38-A microdilution method.Air samples were collected by using AIR/IDEAL 90 mm biocollector (BioMerieux, France). First cultures of these samples were inoculated in 40 mg Gentamicin added PDA and their subcultures were inoculated in Czapex-Dox agar. Totally 118 Aspergillus strain [%59 A. fumigatus, %12 A. niger, %16 A. versicolor, %4 A. terricola, %1 A. flavus, %1 A. parvulus, %1 A. ochraceus, %1 A. sydowi, %1 A. fishcheri, %2 A. aureolatus, %2 A. carneus] were isolated and identified by mycologic methods. In our study, A. fumigatus, A. niger and A. versicolor were the most isolated species.Total of %72 Aspergillus strains were isolated from Afyon Kocatepe University hospital and Chest Diseases Hospital. While %48 of all Aspergillus were isolated in the autumn and %15 in the summer, %64 of A. fumigatus were detected in the autumn and %53 of A. versicolor were detected in the summer periods. In the autumn period, 57 Aspergillus strain in 8 different species were isolated. In the studies carried out in the hospital units, %38 of all isolates were detected inside the hospital, %14 of the isolates from chest diseases ward room, %24 from the intensive care unit and %6 from the dialysis units.In all the strains which were isolated, itraconazol, voriconazol, fluconazol, amfoterisin B, antifungal susceptibility study were performed. In case of susceptibilty threshold accepted ? 2?g/ml, %100 of all the strains were detected resistant to fluconazol. It was found that itraconazol, voriconazol and amfoterisin B are the most effective antifungals, respectively.Key Words: Aspergillus, hospital, humidity, antifungal susceptibility.
