Abstract (EN)

Letting computers come into our daily lives and building computer networks made it easy to manage and share the information via computer networks. With the help of the Internet the concept of communication has evolved into a new generation and lots of daily applications related to communication are being handled by the computers. Nowadays, it is very important to build highly available computers and make the data on the network flow continuously. In the idea of Continuously Available Servers, there are some other concepts like High Availability, Fault-Tolerance etc. and there are some researches on these subjects. In this work, the disadvantages and the incompetent sides of highly available and fault tolerant systems are examined and extracted and then a new system, called Application Transparent Asymmetric Failover System (ATAFS) is designed to work on small systems with a low cost and high performance. ATAFS architecture is planned to be implemented on Linux operating system and is planned to be a loadable kernel module. Implementing this design would be a complement to all these studies on high availability and fault tolerant systems researches. Keywords: Linux, kernel-based, high availability, fault-tolerant, transparent, warm failover
