Özet (EN)

The basis of this research is about all types of prints regarded as original can be attributed to the marking criteria. Analyzing thoroughly both the national and international theoretical resources and similar examples referenced in the current literature, this review involves the historical development of printmaking spreading from China and Japan as the starting point, considering the socio-economic conditions of periods until today. Germany takes a significant place in the historical development of woodcut and expressionism movement. Outstanding German expressionist artists and in the later years by means of many Turkish students who went there to study printmaking and later became artists, initiated the development of printmaking in Turkey, are examined. At the final chapter, an interview with artist and academician Prof. Fevzi Karakoç, shows the relation between woodcut and technology, contributions of printmaking lessons to graphic design at the universities and an evaluation of woodcut technique whether it is a contemporary art form or not.
