Investigation of boric acid impregnation process in wood material and its applications

Abstract (EN)

Ecological balance is protected by hindering over usage of wood raw material by transforming panel and composite materials, which has wide area of usage in many industries owing to organic and inorganic content of wood rawmaterial and various harmful factors, some breakups occur in the structure of it. By impregnating with different chemicals, improving is provided against especially thermal and biological degradation. In this thesis study, in oxidative and inert environmental, thermal degradation behavior and kinetics of scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood, which was impregnated with boric acid solution of different concentrations, have been investigated and structural characteristics of solid residual, which were obtained at the end of degradation, have been determined. Methylene blue adsorbtion performance of the residual that determined as activated carbon was investigated. Also the effect of ultrasonication on adsorption was examined. As a result, samples of scots pine, which was impregnated with %1 boric acid solution for 35 minutes, can be used at the methylene blue adsorbtion of solid black residual which was obtained following thermal degradation. It was observed that adsorption capacity performance after ultrasonic cleaning increased 113% in the 40 mg.L-1 concentration.
