Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study was to determine the position and the importance of nutrition and body weight control in etiology and treatment of erectile dysfunction. Fifty four patients, between 24-66 years age all diagnosed as erectile dysfunction are included in the study who applied to Hisar Hospital Urology Clinic. After medicaal examination and taken blood determined biochemical parameters analysis all patients referred to the dietitian and nutritional education was given. The anthropometric and blood pressure measurements of the patients, who were interviewed 3 times in total within 2 months, were made at each visit. Blood biochemical parameters, IIEF (International Erectile Function Index) and food frequency questionaire were analyzed in the beginning and at the end of the study. The mean age of the patients was 41.87 years, and most of them were high school (38.9%) and university (57.4%) graduates. The frequency of comorbidities were; Diabetes 17.5 %, Hypertension 12,6 %, Hyperlipidemia 19,4 % and Hepatosteatosis 5,8 %. The 85,2 % of the patients were doing exercises lower than 150 hours a week. According to the difference in average of the 2 food consumption frequency; the intake of dietary energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, saturated fatty acids and sodium intake were significantly decreased in 40 years and younger age patients group. The decrease in dietary energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate levels are found statistically significant in older than 40 years age patient group. At the beginning of the study, the BMI average was calculated as 30,3±4,2 kg/m2 for 40 years and younger age patients and 31,4±5,1 kg/m2 for 40 and older age patients. At the end of the study the mean values of BMI were as 29,2±3,9 kg/m2 ve 30,26±4,65 kg/m2, found statistically significant. According to the changes among biochemical parameters, Total T (Testesteron) levels were increased in 40 and older age group and Free Testesteron levels in under 40 years age group found statistically significant. The increase in HDL Cholesterol (C) and decrease in Total C, LDL C, HbA1c and Homa IR are found statistically significant in all age groups. There was no statistically significant differance of first and second evaluation of IIEF values between 30-39 age (p=0,020) and 40-49 age (p=0,014). Although there was a positive corelation is found between antropometric measurement and IIEF score but it was not stastically significant. It is known that diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and obesity cause many diseases by affecting circulation. It was tried to prove the corrective effects of weight loss and dietetics in male sexual health as in these disorders. KeyWords: Erectile dysfunction, IIEF, obesity, nutritional education, body weight loss
