The role of the Qur'an in the prevention of moral disengagament

In this study, moral disengagement which is a socio-cognitive mechanism suggested by Albert Bandura is investigated in the light of verses. Moral disengagement as a term is the continuation of the immoral behavior by moralizing the immoral behaviors of the individual in his/her own inner world. The theory of Moral disengagement is consists of eight socio-cognitive mechanism. These mechanisms are : Moral legitimization, mitigating comparison, euphemistic labeling, underestimating the results, unhuman sight, laying to one's charge,displacement of responsibility and spreading of responsibility. In this study, the mentioned mechanisms are explained, and examples found in the verses are given. Again, the importance of self-control ability is mentioned in order to prevent moral disengagement. Emotions such as high anxiety, delusion, greed, and lack of gratitude, which cause moral disengagement, are explained and the relevant verses are referenced. In order to prevent moral disengagement, the construction of morality in the Qur'an, the guidence of the Prophet with his morals are mentioned. The verses recommending the spread of love and goodness to human life are mentioned by stating the effect of preventing moral disengagement. Values that can prevent moral disengagement such as protecting virtues, getting rid of addiction, asking for good morals in prayer are explained. This study, which is handled with a qualitative research technique, contributes to the studies done so far and provides a basis for the detailed processing of this subject in terms of Tafsir. It is thought that it would be beneficial for researchers reading in the field of moral disengagement to review the relationship of this issue with the verses, which is not found in other studies, and the solutions suggested by the verses.
