Abstract (EN)

This study analyses the novels and the authorship of one of the major Turkish novelists of the post 1980's, Ahmet Altan. The significance of this work is that, taking also the authors attitude towards the reader, it is the first study that evaluates and gives Ahmet Altan's novels a place in Turkish literary tradition as one of the most read and discussed novelists of contemporary Turkish literature. The study consists of an introduction, three chapters and a bibliography. The introduction part can also be divided into three. First of all it lays out the historical development of the novel genre; then it gives a general overview of Turkish novel until 1980's; finally it gives some general information about the novel ofpost 1980's Turkey. The first part of the study deals with the life of Ahmet Akan, his literary characteristics and his works; the second chapter analyses his novels and the third part deals with his authorship in general In each of the three chapters, the material obtained is introduced through examples and then analysed. The conclusion gives a general evaluation of the study. The bibliography lists the articles both from the magasines and newspapers and the books that this study benefited from. Finally, this study aims to reveal the fundamental characteristics of Ahmet Altan's novels and to place him among the major authors of contemporary Turkish literature.
