Reli̇gi̇on and moderni̇zati̇on i̇n Ahmet Cevdet Pasha's thought

In this study on Ahmet Cevdet Pasha's understanding of religion and modernization, the social and institutional structure of the Ottoman State was taken up in the light of the evaluations of the modernization process Cevdet Pasha. Modernization is a layered, complex and multidimensional phenomenon. The elements that make up the modernization directly affected the social fabric. The politics of the Ottoman State in the direction of modernization are indisputable on the state system and on social life. Religious institutions have been an important factor in maintaining the systemic existence of the Ottoman State. However, secularization, which is part of the modernization process, caused the religious institution to weaken. This has led to some systematic weaknesses. With the modernization movements that started in the 19th century, the original institutions and structures of the Ottoman State began to become a part of the modern world. His renovation efforts will bring a new breath to the understanding of religion and modernization. He is a person who is open to innovation with preserving the traditional side. The various functions of the upper levels of the state have offered him the opportunity to closely observe the values, traditions and beliefs of the society in which he lived. He identified the basic pillars of the Ottoman State and developed reasonable solutions in this context.
