Özet (EN)
The subject of our research is a comparative and descriptive examination of the German translation version of the novel named ?Tranquillity? by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar in line with the principles of text translation criticism and discussion of this literary work in consideration of the scientific literature. This study aims to describe how this literary work, which is written in Turkish language originally, was translated into German language and to assess the style of transfer from one language to another, additionally, to define how far the knowledge of field, theme and grammar, which every translator is supposed to have, are harmonised and used together with creativity. In the theoretical part of our research that is made up of two sections, we set up our data base by a review of the scientific literature. While doing this, we gave place to the views of leading theoreticians in the field of literary translation. Furthermore, we presented some comprehensive information due to how to make a scientific and objective criticism of a translation of a text.In the second part of our research, in other words, in the empirical part, we tried to assess the German Translation version of the aforementioned novel ?Tranquillity? written by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, one of the famous novelists of Turkish Literature, in the view of scientific literature.vAt the end of our study, we observed that the translator we examined adopted a target language-oriented approach in general and while translating from the sourcelanguage to the target language, he primarily grounded on the culture of the target language. In order to give an idea we could state as follows:Even though the source text includes 291 pages, the translation of the text consists of 551 pages. The translator obviously made plenty of additions while translating the source text. In this sense, we also observed that the translator ignored the formative and grammatical characteristics of the text and was primarily in an effort to translate the content of the text.As the work of art we have examined here is a literary work, we highlighted that the content and the form are integrated in the translation of such literary works and the translation should be made without preferring one to another.KEY WORDS: Translation, Literary Translation, Equivalence, Criticism on Literary Translation, Implicit Expressions, Style, Analysis.
