The forms of masculinity in the stories of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar

With the acceleration of the work in the field of masculinity, another point that came to the fore besides biological gender has been the concept of gender. Social norms, the socio-cultural structure in which the individual grows up, economic conditions, the existing psychological state are just a few of the elements that are determined as important factors in masculinity construction. In this regard, the concept of masculinity that interacts with sociological and psychological situations; it is the one of the important fields of study that the authors transfer to the fictional field without any pressure. In this study, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's stories, which contain rich material in the context of masculinity styles, will be examined through sociological and psychological grounds. In the context of Tanpınar's technique of constructing masculinities in the study; what are the dynamics that effect masculinity building, how masculinity is positioned in stories within the existing patriarchal order, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, a generation that witnessed the fall of the Ottoman Empire and foundation of the Republic. How Tanpınar reflects traditional and modern masculinity traits to story characters, how childhood years affect masculinity in adulthood, how masculinity is positioned in marriage and extramarital relationships are important points to be enlightened. In this context, Tanpınar's book titled "Hikayeler" will be used as the main material source and the features of masculinity styles in his stories will be determined within the scope of the above criteria. Within the scope of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's stories, masculinities, an area that has not been studied before, will be examined in detail by taking into account the way they are placed in stories in the study.
