Özet (EN)

Grammar is the study of language in the framework of the rules of structure, types of words, syntax and phonetics. The idea behind teaching grammar is to provide students with skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening rather than having them memorize the language as body of rules. In this regard, several Turkish grammar books have been prepared and used so far since Tanzimat Reform Era. In this present study, Ahmet Rasim' s New Style Abridged Turkish Grammar Book has been transliterated into Latin alphabet from Ottoman Turkish in the first place. The book consists of sixty-eight pages. The sequence of subjects in the book is demonstrative adjectives, noun, indefinite pronoun, pronouns, infinitive, verbs and propositions. The study compares teaching of grammar in Turkish syllabus in second stage of primary school with New Style Abridged Turkish Grammar Book. To achieve this goal, the similarities and differences between the book and syllabus were investigated. Similarly, assessments were made regarding objective, contents, methods and techniques of teaching. Subjects covered in the syllabus and book are presented in a table comparing both. Primary School Turkish Education Syllabus is prepared based on constructivist approach. Constructivist approach stipulates that the knowledge is not to be directly provided to the student but rather the student should find it by intuition and discovery. This approach also requires processing knowledge in a system structured from easy to difficult and simple to complex considering the development level of the child. New Style Abridged Turkish Grammar by Ahmet Rasim was prepared in consideration of constructivist approach. This present study also provides some evaluations in terms of teaching methods and techniques. the book was also evaluated in this respect.
