Özet (EN)

In this study, the sound transmission losses of the wood-based siding were investigated. For this purpose, Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.), Uludağ pine (Abies bommulleriana), Oriental Beech (Fagus orientalis L.) and Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea L.) grow naturally, have important commercial valves and also were preferred as wood wall siding materials were used. In addition, different wood-based composite materials, i.e., Particleboard, fiberboard, melamine coatedparticleboard, melamine-coated fiberboard and plywood were also tested. Particle board and fiberboard were faced with oak and beech wood before varnishing. Single and two components water based varnishes were applied as protective layers on particleborad, fiberboard and plywood samples, and all samples sized with 18 mm thickness, 29 mm and 100 mm diameters. The sound transmission losses were determined by using a traditional impedance tube according to ISO/DIS 10534 standards. The results showed that in solid woods, sound transmission losses increase with the increase density of the sample, with the use of the bi-component water based varnish and with the varnish-wood interaction. Meanwhile, it was detected thatas for in composite samples, the type of the surface lining and the type of the varnish and the interaction of these components increase the sound transmission losses.Key Words : Sound transmission loss, wood, water-based varnishes
