Comparing the thoughts of patients who apply to family doctors for prescription writing with those of patients who apply for examination

SUMMARY COMPARİNG THE THOUGHTS OF PATİENTS WHO APPLY TO FAMİLY DOCTORS FOR PRESCRİPTİON WRİTİNG WİTH THOSE OF PATİENTS WHO APPLY FOR EXAMİNATİON Objective: Our study aims to investigate whether there is a difference between patients who apply to family physicians to get a prescription and patients who apply to be examined, in terms of their opinions about their physicians. Method: Our study is a cross-sectional analytical study and the data were collected at Dokuz Eylül University Education Family Health Centers in February and March 2023. A sociodemographic information survey and Primary Care Assessment Survey (PCAS) were administered to the participants by the researcher via face-to-face interview method. SPSS 25.0 package program was used for statistical analysis. Mean and standard deviation were used for descriptive continuous variables, and frequency and percentage distributions were used for categorical variables. T-test was applied to compare continuous and categorical numerical independent variables. In all analyses, p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. The population of the study consisted of patients who applied to Dokuz Eylül University Education Family Health Centers located in three central districts of Izmir. 3 out of 6 centers were randomly selected Results: The rate of patients who applied to family physicians to get a prescription was higher than that of patients who applied to be examined. In general, when looking at the PCAS sub-dimension scores, it was found that the highest sub-dimension score was the protective services and counseling sub-dimension, and the mean scores of "Personal Approach" and "Communication" were higher than the other sub-dimensions, and the sub-dimension mean with the lowest score was "Longitudinal Continuity". It was determined as . In our study, a significant difference was detected in all sub-dimensions of our survey administered to patients, except the Financial Accessibility sub-dimension. The difference in the sub-dimensions of Organizational Accessibility, Longitudinal Continuity, Physician-Based Continuity, Holistic Knowledge of the Patient, Coordination, Physical Care, Communication, Personal Approach and Trust was found to be in favor of patients who applied to their physicians for examination. Conclusion: In our study, it was determined that the patients who applied to their physicians to get a prescription actually had a negative situation in many sub-dimensions compared to the patients who came to their physicians for examination. There is no study in the literature showing that these thoughts of patients towards their physicians are really the thoughts of the patients. There is also a need for qualitative research to investigate this type of thinking on the part of family physicians.
