Abstract (EN)
Aim: In this research, it is aimed to find obesity rate, preparation levels for the treatment, the factors that prevent obesity treatment and the opinions regarding obesity in individuals over 18 years old who applied to Akdeniz University Hospital Family Medicine Polyclinic. Material and Method: A total of 329 individuals applying to Akdeniz University Hospital Family Medicine Polyclinic participated in the study. The research questionnaire consisting of 46 questions was conducted to the participants who accepted to be volunteer in this study by face-to-face interview technique. Statistical analyses was performed by SPSS 22.0. The significance level is accepted as p<0.05 statistically. Descriptive statics are stated as numbers and percentages. The variables examined with Kolmogrow Smirnov Normality Test are determined as not normally distributed. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the means of more than two groups, and the Mann Whitney U test was used to determine the differences between these groups. Bonferroni correction was made to the Mann Whitney U test results. The comparison of the frequencies was performed by Chi-Square analysis. The change of numerical values was examined with correlation analysis. Results: A total of 329 people, 108 men (32,8%) and 221 women (67,2%), participated in this research. 152 of the participants are university graduated, and 215 of them are married. The mean of participants' age is 47,33±16,18, the mean of their BMI (body mass index) is 26,57±5,72, the mean of their waist circumference is 90,22±14,87. It is found that 38,0% (n=125) of the participants are pre-obese, 34,7% (n=114) of them are in the normal weight range, 24,6% (n=81) of them are obese, and 45,6% (n=150) of them have abdominal obesity. 17,9% (n=59) of the participants smoke, and 14,0% (n=46) of them consume alcohol. 66,9% (n=220) of the participants have a chronic disease, 28,6% (n=94) of them have HT, 21,0% (n=69) of them have DM, and 8,2% (n=27) of them have CAD. The obesity increases with age, marriage, the number of children, having a chronic disease in direct proportion. Obesity is inversely proportional to educational status, monthly income, and the number of meals. Conclusion: The frequency of obesity tends to increase. A holistic approach should be adopted in the fight against obesity. Primary care doctors have a great responsibility for the prevention, detection and treatment processes of obesity before it emerges. Key Words: Obesity, BMI, Diet, Exercise, Chronic Disease
