Evaluation of Attitudes and Thoughts of the People Over the Age of 18 Who Applied to Family Medicine Outpatient Clinics About Shared Decision Making Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the attitudes and thoughts of individuals over the age of 18 who applied to our Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Family Medicine Department outpatient clinic about shared decisionmaking. Methods: Our descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted by faceto- face interview through a questionnaire set. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. In comparison, Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used and p <0.05 was considered significant. Findings: Working was aged 18 and over 256 people were included. 60.5% of the participants are women, 60.5% are married and 80.1% are at least high school graduates. 48.4 percent of them have a middle income level. There is at least one chronic disease in 35 percent. 96.1% of them stated that they wanted to know the side effects of the drugs during the treatment process. The preferences of the participants in the process of arranging treatment were categorized into 3 groups. These; It was 65.6% "making a joint decision with the physician", 29.7% "let the doctor decide", 4.7% "let the doctor decide the treatment options myself". Conclusions: Patients receiving services from the Family Medicine Outpatient clinic generally want a patient-centered approach, with the expectation of informing them about the side effects of the medication, speaking their opinions and participating in medical care decisions. The complaint of the majority of patients is that the doctor cannot allocate enough time for his patient. Despite this situation, it has been observed that patients trust their physician. Shared decision-making enables patients to develop individuals who take better care of themselves, better fit their health-related decisions, and use medical services more rationally. It is important in providing health services and establishing a strong patient-physician relationship. In contemporary medicine practice, it is important that all physicians, especially Family Physicians, adopt a patient-centered approach and involve the patient in the management process and it is preferred by patients.
