Özet (EN)
Purpose: This study was conducted on individuals aged 18 years old and over who have experienced or not experienced domestic violence, married or divorced. The aim of this study was to determine the attachment styles and responsibility for violence in intimate relationships, and to investigate the relationship between attachment and styles of responsibility for violence in intimate relationships. Materials and Methods: This study was planned as a descriptive relationship-seeking research. The sample of the study consisted of 667 voluntary participants aged 18 and over, married or divorced, residing in Istanbul. The Participant Information Form, the Relationship Scales Questionnaire (RSQ) and the Intimate Violence Responsibility Scale (IVRS) were used to obtain the data. Results: It was determined that women experienced more violence than men, and emotional violence was the most experienced violence in both genders. It was determined that the participants got the highest score in the sub-dimension of "dismissing attachment" within the scope of RSQ, and the highest score in the sub-dimension of "minimizing" within the scope of IVRS. There was no statistically significant relationship between secure attachment and the sub-dimensions of responsibility for violence in intimate relationships. The correlation coefficients, obtained by comparing the average scores of Relationship Scales Questionnaire and Intimate Violence Responsibility Scale show that, the styles of violence responsibility in intimate relationships are negatively affected (p<0.05) in parallel with the increasing of insecure attachment styles. Conclusion: According to the results obtained, the experience of domestic violence is not to be underestimated. Further research is needed in practice and in the academic theory from an interdisciplinary perspective. It is necessary to understand violence on the axis of individual, family and community mental health and take preventive measures. In this context, it is important to develop a sense of responsibility at both personal and social level. It would be beneficial to develop pre-marital consultancy services and parent trainings with the content of self-knowledge and attachment and popularize them to wider areas. In addition, more effective psychosocial support services should be provided during and after the divorce process.
