The assesments related to the women that take service from shelters because of the domestic violence and staff of shelters: Sample of Ankara

Today, we facing through the incidence of domestic violence against women as a social problem and in this context, for the solution of this problem, government policies and changes in services are being made. However, almost no conducted studies that regarding to provide long-term benefits for measure the extend of this kind of services. The women shelters service is the most important service that provided to women in Turkey. Since the 1990's, in our country, the women shelters services has begun and had increasing number till today. However, while aiming to make number adequacy of these services, it is important to evaluate and discuss in terms of both service suppliers and people that use services. In this study, it has tried to determine that the evaluation of the services based on the views of 107 women who were victim of domestic violance and 10 staff of the shelters that bounded to Ministry and the local government in Ankara. This study is an evaluation research, the data was obtained using the qualitative and quantitative methods. The women that need service from shelters are often with low socio-economic and educational levels and they also need the service due to violence from their husbands. Said women in the organization with the highest rate that %46,7 remain with 0-3 months. Women have evaluated their relations with professional staff as pretty good. %74,8 of the women participating in the study stated that the organization is satisfying with the physical properties. Women stated also the most adequate service is the security service with %86,9 rate, after that the second adequate service stated by women participating with %72,9 rate that shelter services and the third most adequate service for women in organization is stated that legal support services with %63,6 rate. These services stated by the women are the most adequate services. On the other hand, the women stated that the least beneficial service is vocational education support service with %36,4. In the organization, there are five permanent professional staff, two of them are from special service procurement and the three of them are working for additional courses pay. The all staff finds their salary are inadequate. Overall, they love the work they do in, but they think they can not to provide professional satisfaction. The people in staff have stated that they need to support in-service training and supervision because of the inadequacy of number in professional staff with also they stated they can not fulfill their professional work due to the higher workload. They also stated the issues they live that implemention of legislation in the field of violence against women especially in the provision of children of women's privacy. The professional staff in organization stated the shelter is only providing the shelter services to women that are victims of domestic violence, but psychological support for women's empowerment, temporary financial assistance, support on vocational training, social, artistic and sporting activities are stated by staff as inedaquate. They have also expressed that the differences in terms of operations in guesthouses between bounded with Ministry and local government.
