Stating metaphorical perceptions about family concept

The Family is the first place where individuals adapt to community life. Family is an important factor in the student-centered education. Also as a first person who contact with student's parents and who usually contact with students in the school, primary school teacher's perception about the concept of family can be decisive about child traininig and development. In this study, it is aimed to determine the perception of primary school students, primary school teachers, parents about the concept of family with the help of metaphors. The participants of the study consisted of 4th grade students, who are educated in the primary schools in Sakarya, Hendek in 2014-2015 education year, their primary school teachers and their parents. The study was performed with 361 4th grade students, 23 primary school teachers and 75 family members. All data of the study was taken with the statement 'family is like…, because….' in survey forms. Content analysis method was used for the analysis of the data. In the end of the study, the concept of 'family' has been sensed mostly as 'love' by the primary school students, mostly as 'tree' by the primary school teachers and parents. At the same time, according to their metaphors it is stated that primary school students, primary school teachers and parents have similar and different conceptional categories.
