Abstract (EN)

Evaluation of nutrition knowledge and behaviors of pregnant women attending a family health center: A qualitative study AIM: Pregnancy is a physiological period during which nutritional habits gain critical importance for maternal and fetal health. The aim of this study is to qualitatively assess the nutritional knowledge levels and dietary behaviors of pregnant women through interviews conducted at a family health center. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted using a qualitative, descriptive design. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form consisting of thirteen questions addressing socio-demographic characteristics and five open-ended questions aimed at exploring pregnant women's knowledge and behaviors regarding nutrition. The opinions obtained through in-depth interviews were categorized into themes and subthemes. RESULTS: A total of 20 pregnant women participated in the study. The mean age of the participants was 30.0 ± 4.32 years. The data obtained were grouped under five main themes: "perceptions of nutrition during pregnancy", "changes in dietary behaviors", "information sources", "challenges encountered" and "suggestions and expectations". CONCLUSION: Knowledge and behaviors related to nutrition during pregnancy are shaped by the interaction of individual, psychosocial, cultural, economic and environmental factors. It is essential to integrate nutritional counseling into primary healthcare services and to provide individualized, evidence-based education. Strengthening the communication skills of healthcare professionals, along with enhancing family and social support, may contribute significantly to the sustainability of healthy nutritional behaviors. Increasing awareness of cultural beliefs, ensuring access to reliable information through digital tools and integrating psychosocial support into counseling are also recommended. Keywords: Nutrition, pregnancy, primary healthcare, qualitative study.
