Supporting the early literacy experiences of families and their children with hearing loss: Action research

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to examine the early literacy practices of three families with hearing loss children and to improve the practices with remote support in an effort to solve the problems experienced by the families during the research process. This research is designed as an action research because it covers the planning and implementation of practices to strengthen the early literacy experiences of children with hearing loss and their families and the interactions in these lives, and the improvement of this process. The data were collected by video observations, semi-structured and unstructured interviews, documents, products and research diary. After determining the needs of the families, the aims of the application and the application content consisting of modules were determined. During the research process, the common and individual needs of the families were met and their early literacy experiences were supported. As a result of the research; It has been observed that the perceptions of the participating families regarding early literacy development have changed, the literacy experiences in the home environment and their immediate surroundings have increased and diversified, and the strategies used by the mothers in their reading experiences have improved.
