Asil Demirezen, Determining the relationship between serum interleukin 33 levels and clinical features of the disease in patients with Familial Mediterranean Fever. Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autoinflammatory disease characterized with recurrent fever, serositis, arthritis and erysipelas-like erythema attacks. It is related to mutations in MEFV gene which codes the FMF pyrin protein, mutated pyrin causes excessive production of interleukin 1β which is the main cytokine triggering the attacks in FMF. Interleukin-33 (IL – 33) is a nuclear cytokine from IL-1 family. Interleukin-33 is known to take part in pathogenesis of several rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and ankylosing spondylitis. Patient acceptable symptom state is the disease evaluation method with a simple question especially in rheumatic diseases. There is no existing study researching the relationship between IL-33 and clinical and laboratory features of FMF, the usability of patient acceptable symptom status on patients with FMF. The aim of this research is determining the relationship between serum IL-33 levels and clinical features of the disease in patients with FMF disease and evaluating the usability of patient acceptable symptom state on these patients. The research involved 54 FMF patients and 29 healthy volunteers. Serum IL-33 levels and relationship between clinical and laboratory features were evaluated in both patients and healthy individuals. Patient acceptable symptom state question were also asked to all patients in study. The responses were compared with the patients' clinical and laboratory features, and usability of the test in these patients was evaluated. Consequently, while CRP and sedimentation levels in FMF varied significantly in distinguishing remission and resilient patients, there is no significant relationship between serum IL-33 levels and FMF clinical and laboratory features. additional research is needed to determine IL-33's role in FMF pathogenesis and its relationship with clinical and laboratory features. Patient acceptable symptom state is found beneficial in evulation these patients simply and swiftly especially in terms of distinguishing severe FMF disease. In FMF, not only clinical response but also laboratory response is important, PASS alone is insufficient to evaluate patients, and patients should be evaluated together with clinical and laboratory results.
