Black figured Kylixes of Ainos (Enez)

In this study named "Black Figured Kylixes of Ainos (Enez)" is mainly aimed to identify the painter(s), production methods and raw material disposing evaluations on investigated eight pieces setting off a special group by their similar forms and ornaments. Archaeological documentation, interventions of conservation-restoration, definition of form and decoration styles, dating studies, iconographic and archaeometric analysis and experimental re-productions performed toward this aim make the scope of the study. Regarding this extent, chosen methods is listed belove: measurements, photograps, drawings and spectrometric colour detection for archaeological documenting, regulations on process of adaptation to variable environment by moisture, mechanical cleaning, adhesive bonding, complementary filling and encolouring for conservation-restoration, visual examinations for determination of form, style and techniques of ornament, analogy by literary investigation for dating and iconographic analysis, X Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), thin section examination by Optical microscope and elementary examination by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for archaeometric analysis, traditional clay preparing, throwing by template and firing in electric kiln for experimental re-productions. Documentation, conservation-restoration of eight pieces are completed, is understood that one of them had an antique repair, is determinated that there is no consistensy in all adornment plans but there are general style similarity on scenes that are not handled by single person, that the forms are not able to exact classify and do not repeat each other, that on one of them centauromachy, on three of them Dionysiac and on four of them war scenes are depicted, that the material used on throwing and on decorating are taken from different clay-beds, that main body content show minimal differencies between original ones and local clays, that firing process occured in temperatures under 850 0C, that clay taken from Killik zone is able to be throwed in kyliks form through examinations and treatments executed. As a result, evaluations settled that these eight kylikses found at Ainos City have distinctive qualities. These artefacts are named Black Figured Kylixes of Ainos because of their finding place and the same main body content with local clays. The determined non distictive qualities of the group revealed the problematic that the terms used for local production, style and method in field of archaeology might be discussed.
