Coating AISI 1045 steel with iron based super alloys and investigating of wear behaviours

Abstract (EN)

This study consists of three different stages. In the first part, mechanical alloying of supplied Metco 350 NS and 101 SF powders with a weight ratio of 10% and 90% respectively, are accomplished in a high energy milling machine at a speed of 450rpm for 60 hours. In the second part, the mechanically alloyed super powders are reinforced with the supplied iron based Metco 350 NS powders at the weight ratios of 5%, 10% and 15%, respectively. Then, coatings of the unreinforced iron based powders and reinforced iron based powders on the surface of AISI 1045 base material are performed by the powder flame spray process. Consequently, the wear experiments of the coated surfaces are performed on a the block-on-disc experimental setup at the dry friction conditions. In addition, coated surfaces are subjected to micro hardness tests. The photos of microstructure of coated and worn surfaces are taken in optic microscopy in addition to SEM images in order to analyze mechanical alloying of the coated powders.As a result of the study, micro hardness values of the coatings are observed to be increasing depending upon reinforcement weight ratio. In the optical images taken from the coated surfaces, a porosity intensity is observed. A proportionality between the hardness and wear resistance for the coatings are observed and become higher than previous coating having lower reinforcement material excepting the one including 15% weight ratio.
