Scrutinising of the academical translation teaching within the scope of the fields of educational sciences

The policies pursued by the states have changed as of World War II, international relations have started to gain importance with the competition between countries, and in the sound execution of these relations, the translation has been benefited to overcome the communication barriers stemming from language and cultural differences. As a result of this process, the concept of "professionalism", frequently mentioned today, has emerged. Considered etymologically, "professionalism" derives from "profession", namely; it refers to concepts such as "occupation, professional field, domain/branch". From this point forth, it can be asserted that the concept of "professionalism" makes reference to the situations in which a job is done by the competent of that field or occupation, or it is to be done. Being competent means having a grasp of theoretical or practical knowledge of the related field. Within this context, translatorship has also turned into a domain requiring professionalism and academic departments have been started to be opened in various places as from the 1950s to meet the requirements. To be provided related competencies depends on a systematic, structured, programmed education process. From this perspective, in this study, "academical translation teaching" was examined and described within the context of the fields of educational science such as teaching principles and methods, curriculum development, assessment and evaluation. Qualitative research methods were used during the research process, and the data were mostly collected from the field of educational sciences and translation studies. The obtained data were analyzed within the framework of descriptive analysis.
