Modeling and analysis of academic cooperation networks

With the improvement of communication revolution at the beginning of twenty first century, establishment of cooperation and relations among people has become easier. In order to analyze and interpret those relations and to develop in the right way, the method of Social Network Analysis (SNA) is being used more actively. While there are very few studies on Analysis of Academic Co-operation Networks in our country, also there is no application developed for the people take place in cooperation network.With this study, the cooperation networks established among scientists via common publication, is being analyzed with SNA method and modelled with an application. In this context, a network analysis has been implemented, for the records originating from Turkey in the DBLP database that contains bibliographical information about worldwide computer sciences publication. With official permission received during the development phase, ULAKBIM-National Engineering and Basic Sciences Database has also been included in this study. By means of the information taken from databases which includes databases about researchers? articles, co-author relationships has been determined, networking components and clusters in the network has been analyzed; and also the degree centrality, closeness centrality and betweenness centrality values has been calculated for each author. The data obtained from the analysis is modelled with a query-based application for the researchers to make them to assess their position in cooperation network and to establish new links related with the subjects they study.
