Perceptions of academicians on academic ethics and plagiarism detection software: The case of Aksaray University

In the study, information about scientific research, academic ethics, plagiarism and what libraries can do to prevent plagiarism was given and the aim of the study was determined as; "To determine the level of knowledge and perception of academicians working at Aksaray University about ethics and plagiarism in scientific research processes, to reveal their evaluations about the purpose and skills of using plagiarism detection software and the role of these software in preventing plagiarism". In line with this purpose, many data on academic ethics, plagiarism, causes of plagiarism, prevention of plagiarism, use of plagiarism detection software, purposes, etc. were obtained from 309 academicians working at Aksaray University by survey method. According to the results obtained by analyzing the data, it was seen that academics' general knowledge and perceptions about academic ethics, plagiarism and plagiarism detection software are high, but there are also knowledge gaps and misinformation. It was also found that plagiarism detection software is also used intensively. While it was seen that the most used plagiarism detection software are Turnitin and iThenticate, it was concluded that academics think that the use of these software is effective in preventing plagiarism. In the last stage of the study, many suggestions were offered by libraries to prevent plagiarism, such as planning and announcing plagiarism trainings, creating academic ethics and plagiarism policy, being more active in subscription to plagiarism detection software, adding plagiarism and citation styles to information literacy trainings, etc.
