Abstract (EN)

In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of distant metastasis on human life of patients with lung cancer retrospectively. A total of 483 patients (430 male (89%) and 53 female (11%) diagnosed with lung cancer were included in the study. Demographic data, radiological distribution, diagnostic methods, TNM staging, sites of metastasis, presentation symptoms, histopathological types, survival, and file scans were recorded. The frequency of recorded data and their effects on survival were investigated. The most common presentation symptoms were dyspnea (34.6%) and cough (33.7%). The majority of the cases (43.4%) were squamous cell carcinoma. 85.6% of the patients had a history of smoking. Bronchoscopic bronchial biopsy was the most commonly used diagnostic method with a rate of 58.8%. The most common site of metastasis was skeletal system with 37% and the second was brain with 25.2%. The survival rate of patients receiving any treatment for lung cancer was longer (p <0.001). One-year survival of lung cancer patients; the survival rates were longer in patients without bone metastases (p = 0.018), in patients without liver metastases (p = 0.009), in patients without surrenal metastases (p = 0.020) and in patients without counter lung metastases (p = 0.020). When the five-year survival of patients with lung cancer is examined; compared to those without bone metastases (p = 0.006), compared to those without brain metastases (p <0.001), compared to those without liver metastases (p <0.001), compared to those without surrenal metastases (p = 0.045), compared to those without countralateral lung metastases (p = 0.045) had longer survival. In conclusion, histopathologic subtype, metastasis site and treatment method affect survival in patients with lung cancer.
