Comfort level and factor affecting comfort level of patients who had surgery for lung cancer

Abstract (EN)

Objective: The study was performed to determine the comfort level and factor affecting comfort in patient undergoing surgery for lung cancer. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 185 patient who had surgery for lung cancer, who were consicous, who were able to communicateand, who accepted to participate in the study. The study was performed in İstanbul Yedikule Thoracic Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training Research Hospital, between June And September 2019. The data of the study were collected by face to face interview using The patient İdentification Form, Numerical Pain Scale, Nausea Scale and Perianesthesia Comfort Questionnaire. Statical analyses were performed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation analysis and One way ANOWA test. Scheffe test was used as a complementery post-hoc analysis to determine the difference after the ANOWA test. p<0.05 value was accepted as statistically significance level. Result: The avarange age of the patient participating in the study was 58.87±12.01, 70.3% thereof were male, 91.4% thereof were married, 70.8% thereof middle scholl and lower graduated, 85.4% thereof not working. It as found that 33% of the patient were smokers, 48.6% thereof had a smoking history of 1-10 years. It was found that 81.1% of the patients received pre-operative training, 76% received training from the nurse and 86% received training from the doctor. When postoperative period of patient were examined, Perianesthesia Comfort Questionnaire point avarange was found as 4.55±0.71. The patient with good general health perception, positive attitude towards the current surgery and having preoperative training were found to have higer comfort score (p 0.05). Factor reducing comfort were found that patients feel themselves in foreign enviroment and they have to be very worried. Also they are uncomfortable with the current situation and ambient temperature isn't enough. Conclusion: The comfort level of the patient who had surgery for lung cancer was found to be high. It is suggested that nurses should be provided with planned trainings for individual needs in the perioperative period and that the comfort level is determined after the surgical intervention and the planning, implementation of the care according to the results obtained.
