Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study aims to determine the relationship between dyspnea and sleep quality in individuals with lung cancer. Material and Method: This descriptive, relational study was conducted between October 2020 and May 2021. The universe of the research; All patients diagnosed with lung cancer who are hospitalized in the Medical Oncology Service of İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center and treated as an outpatient in the Chemotherapy Unit, the sample is; Among these patients, patients who accepted to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria were formed. Data were collected using Descriptive Characteristics Data Sheet, Cancer Dyspnea Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scales. Data analysis was carried out with IBM SPSS 25.0 package program. Statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05. Results: The mean age of the patients with lung cancer was 60.94±10.62, the Cancer dyspnea scale total score was 27.43±11.71, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale total score was 14.60±3.06. It was determined that there was a positive correlation between dyspnea and sleep quality of patients with lung cancer (p<0.05), and in the regression analysis, the Cancer dyspnea scale total score had a positive statistically significant effect on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is a positive relationship between dyspnea and sleep quality. As the dyspnea levels of the patients increase, the sleep disorder levels also increase.
