Liner sea transportation, networks in mediterranean sea and turkey’s potential

The global economy has been transformed in recent years by the fall of international barriers to the flow of goods, services, capital and labour, and a marked acceleration in the pace of technological and scientific progress. Technological advances have created new opportunities for business , while reductions in the cost of transport and communication are spurring companies to move operations to lower cost environments. Globalisation and outsourcing open new windows of opportunities for shipping lines, terminal operators and other transport operators by providing new value-added services in an integrated package, through a vertical integration along the supply chain. Thus Europe`s logistics service providing industry and sea transport are being shaped again. % 90 of EU?s trade with other countries is made by way of Sea Transport on the basis of ton-mile, besides that, % 45 of the trade between EU countries is also made by Sea Transport. While there have been big changes in ferry, Roro and container transportation in Mediterranean Zone, the importance of the ports supporting hub ports that intercontinental sea transport has created in the Mediterranean Sea , have increased. There has been a certain dominance of the big global actor?s in the region. G l o bal relations have gained weight nowdays. Turkey is at the cross-roads of existing and planned multimodal intercontinental transportation links.
