Abstract (EN)
The bioactivity of loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) in terms of total phenol, content, antioxidant, inhibitory effect on diabetes-relevant enzymes, α-glycosidase and α-amylase and antimicrobial activity were examined in this study. Three different solvents (ethanol, methanol, and hexane) were used in the extraction of bioactive compounds. The polyphenol content of the fruit extracts varied from 0.058-8.2 mg gallic acid equivalents/g with respect to the solvents used. The highest total phenolics were found in methanol extract. In the determination of antioxidant activity, the free radical scavenging effect of fruit extracts ranged from 1.86-75.85 mM TE/gin DPPH method, while the reducing power capacity of fruit extracts varied from 1,91-11,04 mmol trolox equivalents/L in FRAP method. The antioxidant effect of methanolicextract was found to be the most potent in both antioxidant assays. α-glucosidase inhibition varied among extracts, from IC50: 5.37-51.11 mg/mL, while the α-amylase inhibition ranged from IC50: 3.91-19.2 mg/mL. The methanolic extract was the most effective in α-glucosidase inhibition, whereas ethanolic extract was the strongest inhibitor against α-amylase. While the extract obtained from methanol and ethanol from the loquat fruit extracts showed an antimicrobial effect against E. coli at levels of 13.3 ± 0.60 mm and 14.7 ± 0.60 mm, all extracts were found to have no antimicrobial activities against S.aureus.
