Abstract (EN)
Smart meters are important components of smart grids thanks to their features such as measuring energy with high accuracy, remote reading, remote controlling, billing and reducing the rate of illegal energy usage. Bidirectional data flow is provided with advanced communication infrastructure in smart meter systems. In this project, it is aimed to develop a smart electricity meter that can be managed remotely with Wi-Fi communication systems. In this way, a solution that does not require additional infrastructure and investment has been developed in order to remotely read the meters in environments where there is a common Wi-Fi network such as large shopping malls, business centers and housing estates. In addition, thanks to the Wi-Fi based smart energy measurement module developed within the scope of this study, the consumption of electrical appliances was measured and managed remotely. Moreover, a mobile application design has been realized in which users can monitor their consumptions thanks to the smart electricity meter and developed energy measurement modules with Wi-Fi communication feature. The primary purpose of this thesis is to provide Wi-Fi communication feature to smart meters in accordance with smart grid structure and smart building applications. In addition, the developed mobile application will provide versatile benefits such as increasing the interaction of consumers with smart meters and remote management of smart home appliances. Keywords: Wi-Fi based smart meter, Smart grids and cities applications, Energy measurement module, Energy monitoring and control, Mobile application.
