Abstract (EN)
Metal surfaces exposed to harsh environmental conditions in industrial settings undergo corrosion and lose their mechanical strength over time. To protect and improve these surface properties, various coating techniques have been applied. Electroless nickel plating, in particular, is widely favored due to its ability to produce uniform coatings without the need for electric current, while also offering superior mechanical properties. Thesis investigates the development of composite coatings by incorporating graphene oxide (GO) into electroless nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) plating solutions to enhance the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of aluminum surfaces used in industrial applications. With this study explores the addition of graphene oxide—a material known for its high mechanical strength, excellent electrical conductivity, and corrosion-resistance-enhancing properties—as an innovative additive to improve the performance of electroless nickel coatings. In the initial phase of the study, graphene oxide particles synthesized using the modified Hummers method were uniformly dispersed within the electroless nickel plating solution. The resulting composite plating solution was applied to aluminum surfaces to achieve the coating. The effects of plating parameters on coating thickness, adhesion strength, and corrosion resistance were systematically examined. Additionally, the morphological and structural characteristics of the coated surfaces were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques. These analyses were crucial in assessing the homogeneous distribution of graphene oxide particles and the structural integrity of the coating. The study's findings indicate that the incorporation of graphene oxide significantly improves coating thickness and adhesion strength, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance of aluminum surfaces. Consequently, GO-supported electroless nickel plating holds considerable potential for extending the operational lifespan of aluminum surfaces in industrial applications. By demonstrating the positive impact of graphene oxide on coating performance, this thesis contributes valuable insights to the development of nickel-based composite coatings. The results provide a foundation for creating more durable and corrosion-resistant coating systems for industrial applications.
