THE EFFECT OF ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING ON WEARINGSTRENGNESS OF IRON BASED P/M METARIALS(M. Sc. Thesis)Sibel Derya DEĞ RMENC OĞLUGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYNovember 2005ABSTRACTPowder metallurgy is a modern manufacturing processs. Therefore; it is themost suitable process in the production of technological materials. While thenickel coatings are generally used for decorative purposes, they are also used asan improving process for the the mechanical and surface properties of thematerials in the industry. Wear is one of the problems which are mostly faced inthe industrial application. Abrasion gives a great harm to the national economy. In this study, samples having various densities are produced by using powdermetallurgy techniques from the ferrous powder. Sintered powder metal partshave been asidic electroless nickel coated. In this process four different types ofcoating baths were prepared by changing the hypophosphate amount in thecomposition of acidic AN coating bath. Wear test was applied to the coated anduncoated samples. Wear resistance of the coated samples in different coatingbath compositions was measured. The coating thickness and microstructurewere investigated by taking the micrograph. It has been determined that asporosity ratio of specimens were increasing the coating amonunt increased andhighest wear resistance was in 25 gr/liter hypophosphate amount.Science Code :710Key Words :Powder Metallurgy, Electroless Nickel Coating, WearPage Number :129Adviser :Assoc.
