The effects of active learning on achievement, attitudes and self-efficacy towards music history

The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of Active Learning on pre-service music teacher?s achievement, attitudes and self-efficacy toward Music History course.The research was designed based on an experimental pretest-posttest model with the control group. The research was conducted with 29 students from Adnan Menderes University Music Education Department during 2007-2008 academic years. There were two groups which were randomly assigned. Music History course was carried on by active learning in the experimental group and passive instruction method in the control group.The data were collected by using Music History Test, Attitude Scale Toward Music History and Self-Efficacy Scale Toward Music History.The results of the research show that the active learning methods have significant effectivenes on pre-service music teachers? success about music history and also on their attitudes towards the music history course. However, active learning methods didn?t seem to make any important differences on pre-service music teachers? music history lessons? self-efficacy.
