Investigation of the gender roles of women actively doingsports and non-sports

The aim of this research is to examine the gender roles of women who actively do sports and those who do not.The universe of this research consists of women who live in Ankara, Kırşehir, Mardin and Istanbul and do active sports or not. The sample of the research consists of 515 women who participate in the research voluntarily and actively do sports in various branches and do not. In this study, descriptive and relational scanning design, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used. Questionnaire method was used as data collection tool in the research. Personal Information Form and "Gender Role Inventory" developed by Bem, 1974 were used to collect data.According to the items of femininity attitude of the participants, the perception that the participants showed the highest participation was "friendliness, honor, sensitivity, love for children, altruism" attitudes. The items with the lowest participation are the attitude of "submissiveness". In the items of masculinity attitude, the perception that the participants showed the highest level of agreement was "Growingness and Boldness" and "Dominant, Influential, Taking an Attitude towards Unfairness, Sociable, Sensitive to Family". On the other hand, they agreed with the phrase "Aggressor" in the item they least agreed with. In the items of social acceptance attitude, they also indicated "Honest", Sincere, Reliable, Pessimistic, Conservative, Respectful to Others. The item they least agree with is the expression "sulky".Femininity mean score of the participants was determined as (x=106.10) and Masculinity mean score xiii was determined as (x=108.04). It was determined that the participants were "androgens". According to the age variable of the participants, the masculinity dimension of the 36-30 and 31-40 age groups was found to be higher. It was concluded that the secondary and high school education level, the duration of doing sports and doing sports decreased the femininity attitudes of the participants and increased their masculinity attitudes.
