Abstract (EN)

Citizenship has recently been a pivotal concept in social sciences. Most social scientists have discussed citizenship through various perspectives and have offered differing Theoretical and political conceptualizations. Tracing different approaches within the literatüre, this study has elaborated the citizenship practices in Turkey and has underlined the distinctive struggle of the Saturday Mothers as an examplary of active citizenship. Although it has been discussed by various academic studies, Saturday Mothers' struggle has not been touched upon with regards to the dimeonsion of citizenship. This study, argues that, as a rights-based practice in times intersecting with ethnic identity and but mostly highlighted by woman identity, Saturday Mothers' struggle stands to be an experience of active citizenship.
